Fires are engaging.
Fires are engaging.
The next time a colleague mentions "engaging" audiences, remind them that:
personal injuries are engaging
house fires are engaging
an abandoned baby on your doorstep is engaging
Engagement isn't the goal. Museums can't survive on "engagement". Museums need revenue to fuel their missions.
And engagement isn't their goal either. A person doesn't visit a museum to be engaged. A person pursues experiences to help them achieve their goals.
Engagement is the result, not the cause.
What if we stopped pursuing results?
Have an engaging week,
Kyle
